Not All Tallow Is Created Equal
"Omg not another tallow brand." We get it. There are tons of tallow brands out there.
So what makes us any different?
Once you start rendering your own tallow, you learn pretty quickly what separates the good from the “get-that-off-my-face" tallow.
If you do it right...you start to see that quality, sourcing, and traceability aren't optional. And if you don’t understand what the cow’s life looked like before its fat was turned into skincare, oh boy.
The Hard Truth About “Tallow Brands”
Let’s be honest — most tallow brands you see popping up online have no idea where their fat actually came from.
They’re buying pre-rendered tubs of tallow from random markets or wholesale websites, melting it down, adding a couple drops of cheap essential oils, and slapping on a label that says “small batch.”
Cute labels. But do you know where your fat came from?
What farm? What animal? Who rendered it?
Was it grass-fed? Grain-fed? Factory-raised?
Most of them don’t know — or they just don't want to.
The uncomfortable truth is that it’s easy to market “tallow skincare.” It’s a lot harder to do it right.
What We Do Differently
At TALŌH, every jar we market for facial product starts with suet — the fat from around the kidneys, not the soft trim fat from anywhere else around the cow. Why? Because it’s dense, nutrient-rich, and the purest form of tallow you can get.
We source only from U.S. regenerative family farms that raise their cattle on open pasture, eating grass their entire lives — no grain and no confinement.
Because happy, healthy cows create high-quality fat — and high-quality fat makes all the difference when it comes to what you’re putting on your skin.
Our suet is slow-rendered by hand to maintain its nutrient integrity — no high heat and no shortcuts (trust me, it literally takes forever).
We can trace every batch of tallow back to the specific farm it came from. That’s called quality control.
That said, since tallow has become a bit of a hot commodity lately, there are times when we can’t source suet directly from our usual farms. In those rare cases, we partner with a very small (less-than) handful of trusted, like-minded businesses who share our standards — regenerative practices, verified sourcing, and the same obsession with clean, traceable suet. When we do purchase pre-rendered suet, it’s from these select partners only — never random suppliers, never mystery fat.
Why It Matters
Your skin isn’t just another surface to cover in oils and call it a day. It absorbs what you put on it — and that means it’s only as clean as your sourcing.
If your tallow came from an animal raised on grain and hormones, you’re not just buying a cheap moisturizer — you’re rubbing that entire supply chain onto your face.
We care where our tallow comes from.
We care how it was rendered, who handled it, and what that animal’s life looked like before it became part of our skincare.
The Bottom Line
There’s “tallow skincare,” and then there’s skincare made with real, traceable, regeneratively sourced fat.
We know the difference because we’ve rendered it ourselves.
We’ve seen what good fat looks like, smells like, and how it behaves when it’s respected — not rushed.
We don’t buy tubs from mystery suppliers. We build relationships with farmers, render our own, and when needed, source only from reputable partners who uphold the same strict standards we do.
That’s what makes TALŌH different.
We don’t just make tallow skincare — we make responsible tallow skincare.
Thank you for coming to my TALŌH Talk.
